SMT 310 Human Technology Interaction

Today’s modern world revolves around many types of technology that are utilized for various purposes, some of which are essential and others that are not. Technology plays an important role in our lives, and many people believe they couldn’t survive without it (Small et al., 2020). Technology is here to stay, regardless of how people feel about it. But there’s a major question: Is technology beneficial or harmful? Is it a double-edged sword? For starters, technological advancement is advantageous to humanity for a variety of reasons. Technology may aid in the treatment of more ill individuals at the medical level, also saving more lives and combating very dangerous viruses like this pandemic we are facing. The medical profession, for example, may produce discoveries about therapies, data gathering, symptoms, illness research, human assisting gadgets, and other concepts by using technology (Alotaibi & Federico, 2017). The medical field has become more accessible to the general public because of technological advancements. Medical and health professionals can better care for patients and treat illnesses with the assistance of technology. Almost every sector in the world has seen an improvement in productivity as a result of technological advancements.
SMT 310 Human Technology InteractionWith all of its advantages, technology also has its drawbacks. Social media and mobile gadgets, for example, may cause psychological and physical problems, including eye strain and trouble concentrating on essential activities. They may also have a role in more severe health issues, including anxiety and depression (Small et al., 2020). Overuse of technology may have a greater effect on children and adolescents who are still growing. Regarding the link between technology usage and physical and mental health outcomes, Hatch (2011) has shown that greater levels of technology use in children and adolescents are linked to decreased physical activity, increased depression risk, and poorer well-being.

SMT 310 Human Technology InteractionTechnology advancements are undesirable for a variety of reasons. People don’t get as much face-to-face interaction because they are always talking on the internet (Small et al., 2020). Anyone with a computer or mobile phone can find someone’s personal information. Technology advances and tends to make too much information accessible. The internet, in particular, offers a great deal of information that anybody may access at any time. It harms our brains to not think about anything and rely on technology to solve all of our problems or provide answers to all of our questions (Younes & Al-Zoubi, 2015). Because technology has already identified the solution, it pushes us to become less intellectual and lazy by not completely thinking through issues or asking questions. The abundance of information causes our brains to wander and seek out new information rather than focusing on a single piece for an extended length of time.
People have generally argued whether technology is beneficial or harmful. Many individuals think that technology can only damage their lives and society. In contrast, others passionately defend innovations that have made their lives much more relaxing and fulfilling than they could have been without them. Both of these points of view are somewhat true. Technology seems to have introduced both beneficial and insignificant purposes into our lives. Things that have improved our lives while also having some bad consequences. Technology aided us in a variety of areas, including education, medicine, science, and many more. Because we live in a modern era when new products and discoveries are commonplace, we must use our best judgment to determine which technologies are beneficial and which are potentially harmful. We should also remember that whatever impact technology has on our lives, it is not the technology itself that is at fault, but how we humans utilize it.
